Hanna Homestead

Director, Climate and Militarism Program

Hanna (she/her) is the Director of the Climate and Militarism Program at the Center for International Policy. Her research focuses on the intersection of militarization, economic inequality, and the climate crisis. She also works with CIP’s leadership on the strategic development  and implementation of its new vision and programs promoting progressive U.S. foreign policy. Previously, she worked on police reform efforts in Wisconsin, conducted research for UNICEF, and served as a staffer in the U.S. Senate.


Hanna received her M.A. in International Security Policy at Columbia’s School of International Affairs (SIPA) and her B.A. in  Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The 2023 Dismantling Racism and Militarism (DRM) in U.S. Foreign Policy conference was held from January 5-7, 2023 at the Pocantico Center in Tarrytown, New York. It was jointly organized by the Friends Committee on National Legislation Education Fund (FCNL EdFund) and the Center for International Policy (CIP). This report summarizes the discussions that took place at the conference.

This policy memo was submitted to the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions in regards to their hearing entitled “Follow the Money: The CCP’s Business Model Fueling the Fentanyl Crisis,” held on March 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The purpose of the memo is to provide accurate data and information about the driving forces and suggested responses to the illicit fentanyl trade, and to better understand the best possible methods to successfully combat the illicit financing fueling the fentanyl crisis.
